Refine Texture

CO2 Laser Treatment

Fractional lasers are proven to achieve the best results for texture problems such as large pores, fine lines and crinkles, and acne scarring.  Fractional lasers vaporize columns of skin (sort of like aeration of your lawn) to make your body start the wound healing process, which sends blood and water to rebuild collagen to the treated area. The CO2 laser targets the water in the skin, so it can be used on all skin types and all parts of the body. Our CO2 Fractional Laser Treatment is custom-designed based on each person’s specific needs.  It has become the most asked-for procedure by patients between 30 and 60 years old of all genders.

What results to expect: The goal of any skin rejuvenation procedure is to reduce or partially eliminate sun and age spots, vascular lesions like cherry hemangioma, reduce facial crinkles or to reduce scarring from skin conditions such as acne.  Complete elimination of wrinkles or scarring is not a realistic expectation. We can turn back the hands of time, but we can’t stop them from turning.

Down Time: Varies with Area treated. Typically 3-7 days.

Pain: A topical anesthetic is used to reduce pain during the laser skin resurfacing treatment, but some degree of discomfort will occur after the anesthetic effects have worn off. You will experience a sunburn like sensation during the first few days. It is important to follow post treatment instructions to help with this.

Redness: Erythema (redness) of the skin may occur for a 3-7 days and possibly longer.

Swelling: Temporary edema (swelling) or purpura (bruising) of the tissue of the treated area may occur but will subside in 3-7 days.

Wound Healing: Oozing, weeping, crusting and flakiness of the treated area may persist for the first week.

Gridding: Textural changes of the treated area, such as gridding, may persist for a time following any ablative fractional laser Co2 treatment.  We use topical stem cell ointments immediately after treatment to reduce gridding but it is a concern.

Milla: Milia (small acne-like bumps), especially in the eyelid skin region (if the eyelid skin is included in the area of treatment by the laser energy) may occur. This occurrence happens particularly if ointments are used in the post-treatment phase for a prolonged period of time.

Skin Tightness: Sensation of skin tightness may occur (peaks at 3-5 days post treatment).

Skin Itching: Temporary itching in the early healing phase may occur, sometimes it may be severe.

Contact Dermititis: Contact dermatitis may occur due secondarily to topical preparations (ointments) used post-treatment.

Cold Sores/ Herpes: Occurrence or recurrence of herpes simplex dermatitis is also a possible short-term effect, particularly if it is not pre-treated with an oral antiviral medication such as Acyclovir.  Please inform us of your history before we begin treatment.

Skin Hyperpigmentosis:Transient hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) is another possibility, especially in darker-skinned people. This would occur 3-8 weeks post laser treatment and are usually temporary.

Increased Sensitivity to the Sun: Because of the temporary thinning of the epidermis and dermis and reduction in the number of melanocytes (pigment cells in the skin), you may be more susceptible to the photo-aging effects of sunlight and the carcinogenic (cancer-producing) effects of ultraviolet wavelengths inherent in sun exposure and tanning devices.

Risk of Scarring: The risk of scarring exists in all cases. It is variable and is often related to an individual’s genetic makeup. Scarring can be reduced by carefully following appropriate aftercare instructions and notifying us if a problem develops.

Skin Pigment Changes: Skin color and texture changes may occur. At the junction of the treated and untreated areas, there may be a difference in color, texture and/or thickness of the skin.

Infection: Infection is a risk that occurs in any laser procedure and is minimized by proper post-procedure care and common sense.
