Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a safe treatment for the effective and gentle removal of unwanted hair.  While laser hair removal is effective at removing hair, it is not permanent. You may need touch ups every now and then. Laser hair removal results vary from patient to patient and services are not guaranteed.

How does Laser hair removal work?

The energy from the laser passes harmlessly through the skin where it is absorbed by the color in the hair. The laser energy heats up the hair follicle and disables it so hair will not grow back.

Will laser hair removal work on light hair?

Laser is not effective on light blonde, red or grey hair. It may help reduce the amount of hair and the texture.

What are the side effects and risks?

After laser hair removal treatments, some normal side effects may occur. These include itching, redness and swelling around the treatment area. These side effects should not last more than three days. Some level of pain should also be expected during treatments. These risks can be avoided when being treated with proper wavelengths and appropriate settings for the individual’s skin type. Please reference our laser hair removal after care instructions below.

Can the area be numbed?

Numbing creams are usually not used because they diminish the effectiveness of the treatment. Icing the area after the treatment helps relieve the side effects faster. But if you prefer to use it, we can send it in to the pharmacy for you to pick up.

How long to wait between treatments

Treatments are spaced 4 weeks apart. The shedding of the treated hairs should be complete within 1-2 weeks.

What areas can hair removal be performed?

Anywhere on the body with hair.

Who performs Laser Hair Removal?

The State of Nebraska requires the person that is firing the laser to be a Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practitioner (APRN, DNP, MD, DO). Lindsey Koch, RN and Leslie Dvorak, APRN have completed the course to become a Certified Laser Specialist® and are the providers that will be performing these services.

How do you know what laser to use?

Our Certified Laser Specialist® (CLS) will determine your skin type using the Fitzpatrick skin chart during your laser hair removal consultation. We then can determine which laser will be most effective for laser hair removal treatment. Light skinned individuals need a 755nm Alexandrite laser and darker-skinned individuals need a 1064nm Nd:YAG laser.

We appreciate your understanding during this change as we strive to continue to be able to provide low-cost services to all our patients.
